Eminent personalities from Maharashtra state Medical council felicitated the donor corporates. |

Mumbai, February 21, 2013: SAKSHAM – Empowerment of People with Disabilities (PWDs), a key CSR initiative of Gitanjali Gems Ltd. has been honored at the recently held Blue Dart Global CSR Excellence & Leadership Awards during a glittering function at the Taj Lands End, Mumbai.The award was received by Mayuri Asar, Head - CSR, Gitanjali Gems Ltd.
The Group has been felicitated for its CSR initiative - ‘SAKSHAM’ for its sustained efforts towards empowerment of People with disabilities (PWDs) through training and employment.
Mehul Choksi,CMD, Gitanjali Group said, “The goal of SAKSHAM is to create conditions for People with Disabilities for their rehabilitation and integration into society.
Gems and jewellery is one of the industries where there is a huge potential for employment of the underprivileged PWDs due to the specific nature of the processes.
We have already developed a training centre in Hyderabad where poor illiterate rural PWDs as well as rural youth from in and around the city are trained in the basics of jewellery design and manufacture. It is a four - six month training programme.
Our first batch started with 13 people in the year 2008 and as on today, we have successfully employed 250 disabled people and the number is steadily growing,”
The 2nd Blue Dart Global CSR Excellence & Leadership Awards advisory council included Bhaskar Chatterjee (Director General & CEO, Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs), Dr. Huzaifa Khorakiwala (Executive Director, Wockhardt Ltd.), Mohini Daljeet Singh (Chief Executive, Max India Foundation), Vijay Kalantri (Chairman & Managing Director, Dighi Port Ltd.), Herman Mulder (Chairman, Global Reporting Initiative) and Harsha Mukherjee (Founder & MD, Editor, Ekjaa and IndiaCSR) to name a few.
Gitanjali Group has also received the National Award from the Government of India as the best employer for the “Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities” in 2009 & many more awards for the “Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities”

Recognised as a leading Socially Responsible Exporter for Saksham and other CSR initiatives
Mumbai, November 27, 2012: Gitanjali Gems Ltd., the world’s largest integrated branded jewellery manufacturer-retailer, won the First Runner up award in the “Most Socially Responsible Exporter” category at the prestigious ‘ECGC – D&B Indian Exporters’ Excellence Awards 2012’ held in Mumbai yesterday.
The awards are organised by Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India Ltd (ECGC), a government of India enterprise and Dun & Bradstreet, a leading provider of global business information, knowledge and insight. They recognize the contribution of exporters to the Indian economy in different fields.
Gitanjali Gems has been recognised for its pioneering CSR activities. The company has multiple projects under the banner of Sambhav, its CSR programme. The most notable of these is the Saksham initiative under which the company has provided employment opportunities to over thousand people with disabilities at its own diamond and jewellery manufacturing facilities in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Surat and also trained these people for getting employment in other jewellery manufacturing companies.
Earlier, in 2009, Gitanjali Gems won the “Best Employer” award in the National Awards for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities conducted the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. |

Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee felicitated the 12 winning companies.
Mayuri Asar - Senior Manager - CSR - Gitanjali Gems received the award from
the Finance Minister .
Honoring the winners of the first annual Aaj Tak Care Awards, Pranab
applauded the efforts of the corporate houses to help promote inclusive
growth through social outreach efforts programs."The Aaj Tak Care awards
would go a long way in encouraging other corporate houses to care for the
needy," he added.
Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, who launched the Aaj Tak Care awards anthem,
was also present at the awards ceremony.

It was a proud moment for Gitanjali Group as ‘Saksham’ one of the projects under the company’s CSR initiative ‘Sambhav’, was recently acknowledged and awarded the prestigious NCPEDP- Shell Helen Keller Award, 2010 under Category C meant for Companies/Organizations/Institutions who through their policies and practices demonstrate their belief in equal rights and gainful employment for people with disabilities.
The award, which consisted of a trophy and a citation, was given at a simple ceremony at India International Centre Auditorium, Max Mueller Marg on December 2nd, 2010 on the eve of World Disability Day. Hon’ble Home Minister and chief guest for the evening, Shri P. Chidambaram presented the award to the winners. Mayuri Asar, Manager CSR, Gitanjali Group, collected the award on behalf of the Gitanjali Group.
The Saksham initiative of Gitanjali Group is focused on empowerment People with Disabilities (PWD’s) through a six month training programme and creating conditions for their rehabilitation and integration into society. Nearly 250 such people are employed at the Gitanjali gems factory at Rajiv Gems Park at Hyderabad and the company plans to significantly increase this number in the coming year. |
